I can’t believe it’s already August. It feels like the timeline split when the bullet missed.
I’ve neglected all my hobbies these last couple of months, profitable ones included. I need to finish listing my death pile, churn through a couple of new cards, and start at least one of the dozen ideas that have been bouncing around my brain all year. Until then, here’s this month’s Poshmark sales report.
📊 Reselling Numbers
I made $1,169.51 last month and sold 87 items, bringing my average profit to about $13.44 per item. Plato’s Closet took a few items that had been sitting for a while.
Poshmark’s numbers continue to surprise me. Mercari and Depop just eliminated their seller fees, meaning I can price the same items much lower on those platforms and make the same profit. Personally, I rarely buy from Poshmark anymore because its massive fees and bizarre shipping costs cause sellers to price their items absurdly high compared to other sites. My theory is that Poshmark buyers don’t venture outside its magenta gates to explore other marketplaces; PM has good marketing and a simple checkout process. People trust the name for now, but I can see it going the way of Etsy in the next couple of years.
💳 Churning
I made $350 from opening new accounts last month. Here are some of the intro bonuses I used and a few other recommendations:
I used an intro offer to receive $200 from opening an Amex Rewards checking account, but that code has since expired.
Earn $100 - $250 by opening a new American Express credit card and spending a certain amount within the first three to six billing cycles. Here is my referral link.
The link gives you access to special bonuses for all Amex cards, not just the cards I have.
I recommend the Blue Cash Preferred Card because of its $250 bonus and waived yearly fee for the first year. If you ask to downgrade this card to the free Blue Cash Everday Card within 30 days of being charged your first annual membership fee, Amex will refund your fee without taking away your intro bonus. No credit check is required to upgrade or downgrade cards.
Earn 30,000 Amex points by opening an American Express Business checking account and depositing $5,000.
This one requires a large sum of money, but even if you can’t deposit enough to meet the bonus, having a business checking account is great for making transfers to external banks that offer bonuses for direct deposits.
I use my business checking account to transfer money from my Serve account through the bill pay feature.
I use Serve to liquidate gift cards at Family Dollar and Dollar General locations. I sometimes buy gift cards to meet minimum spending requirements for my other new account bonuses. If you are confused about how this works, here’s a good primer.
I applied for my first Amex card in 2015 to access the Beyoncé tour pre-sale exclusively for cardholders. I have no idea how I was approved for an Amex then, but it ended up being my favorite card. eBay recently stopped accepting Amex on its platform, and I suspect it’s because Amex is always great about refunding disputed charges. eBay would rather cut out one of the most popular credit card brands than put effort into reducing the number of scammers on its platform. Cool. 🙄
Earn $100 cash back through Rakuten by opening an account with Raisin and depositing at least $50.
Here’s a Rakuten referral link if you don’t already use this excellent browser extension + app. I’ve earned nearly $150 on Rakuten this year alone and over $600 total.
The bonus was only $50 last month, so you’re getting a better deal than me! And yes, you can take your money out immediately and still earn this bonus.
Use this link to open a brokerage account with Moomoo and get 15 free stocks.
I can’t find another $100 code like the one I used to open my account last month; it was a limited-time bonus from a particularly annoying financial YouTuber.
I am not your financial advisor, but if I were, I’d advise you to take your money out of Moomoo right after receiving your bonus. It’s basically the SHEIN of trading apps. If you want to open a new account to buy stocks or index funds, I recommend Fidelity.
💰 Total earnings for July: $1,519.51
Compare this to:
March: $1,778.62
April: $2,267.54
May: $2,358.27
June: $1,183.62
I started writing this post on August 1st, but I’ve been on a Crusader Kings 3 kick all month. I recently learned I’d sunk 80 hours of play time into this game over the last two weeks. Managing my kingdoms has become a second full-time job. It’s probably time for a sabbatical.
